Meet chef Robert Acosta

Executive Chef, George M. Steinbrenner Field

Growing up in Washington Heights, New York City, Chef Robert developed an early love for the kitchen because it was a family affair. He and his siblings turned dinner into a competition, each vying to create the most flavorful dish. Chef Robert credits the key to his culinary love to his grandmother, whose joy was seeing her family eat and enjoy her food.

Despite starting college at Pennsylvania State University for Mechanical Engineering, Chef Robert couldn’t ignore the calling of his culinary dreams. He made the bold decision to leave behind the world of engineering and embrace the world of culinary arts, with the bustling kitchens of New York City becoming his training ground. From the OWO Observatory to the Sugar Factory West Village and the Monarch Rooftop under the Addison Hospitality Group, he honed his skills in diverse culinary environments.

It was while working in the iconic Yankees Stadium that an unexpected opportunity arose in Tampa, calling Chef Robert to embark on a new chapter in his culinary adventure. In addition to leading the culinary team at George M. Steinbrenner Field, Chef Robert also supports various venues like Florida State University’s Doak Campbell Stadium and Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu, as well as high-profile events such as the 2020 Super Bowl and the 2019 Video Music Awards, among others. For Chef Robert, greatness isn’t achieved in isolation. He emphasizes the importance of a cohesive team, acknowledging that “to me, there’s no great chef without a great team”.
